You may be wondering who Jamila is.

Here she is.

Jamila by the sea

Jamila is our mum.

She was born on 7 December 1964 in the south of France, near Montpellier.

She has three children: Fiona, Sofiann and Samy.

And for a little while now, she has also been Issa's grandmother.

Ask anyone who knows her to describe her, and you will almost always hear the same thing:

“Oh yes, Jamila, she’s an artist.”

It’s true, our mum has a great creative force. She has this wonderful talent for making beautiful things, sometimes out of almost nothing.

And we are quite proud that each of us inherited at least a little of her creative spark.

Why wheat bags?

Well, here’s why.

Jamila as a young mum with two of her children

Every winter since we were little, our mum has sewn us wheat bags, one for each of the three of us.

It became a ritual. And every year, we all can’t wait to see the new collection.

And there is something really special about these wheat bags.

When you warm them up, they give off a smell a bit like popcorn. A lovely, soothing, comforting smell.

It’s our own little Proust’s madeleine.

For us, this smell goes with winter, a bit like the smell of a log fire.

Even today, it reminds us of the comfort and joy of a warm wheat bag under the duvet on a cold winter night.

That comfort is what we want to share with you.

Why are we selling them?

Well, here’s why.

One of Jamila’s wheat bags

First, because they are great wheat bags. They keep you really warm. And because we grew up with them, and we love them.

Jamila with her grandson

But there is another reason.

Our mum needs help.

For almost all her life, she has lived with serious mental health problems. They still affect her today, especially because of her treatment, which keeps her from finding all of her usual creative drive.

And as she approaches retirement, she needs an activity that helps top up her pension.

So we thought her wheat bags would be wonderful twice over: wonderful for her, as a creative activity again, and wonderful for everyone who gets to enjoy them. Because we truly love these wheat bags.

And that’s where you come in

So we do everything we can to keep her wanting to sew her lovely wheat bags.

And what motivates her most is knowing that lots of people are waiting for theirs.

  2. Jamila touching the wheat bag with her fingertips, still in the microwave, to check the heat

    Check

Touch the wheat bag before putting it on you: it can get very hot.

Questions

How does shipping work?

Outside France, we ship to your address: shipping is calculated from your address and paid with your order. In France, shipping is free to a Mondial Relay relay point that you choose when you order.

If you know Jamila or her children, you can also choose free hand delivery: we will arrange a time to give it to you.

Which fabrics can I choose?

Two fabrics are available: Suns, cream suns on a chocolate background, and Fans, art deco fans in ochre, sage and white. You choose yours when you order.

As each wheat bag is sewn by Jamila, the size and the placement of the pattern vary a little from one to the next.

Can I order both fabrics?

Yes, you can mix both fabrics in one order. Just choose a quantity for each fabric.

What's inside?

Wheat grains, in the fabric you choose: Suns or Fans.

How big is it?

It measures about 33 to 35 cm long and 18 to 20 cm wide. As it is sewn by Jamila, the size varies a little with the seams.

It holds 1 kg of wheat.

How do I heat it?

At home, we put it in the microwave for 2 minutes and it comes out nice and warm. Careful, it can get very hot.

Our tip: start with 2 minutes, then add 30 seconds at a time if it is not warm enough.

You can also warm it up on a hot radiator.

And always touch it before putting it on you.

How do I keep it warm for longer?

Once it is warm, slip it under a duvet or a thick jumper. It then stays warm for a very long time.

Can I use it to warm up my bed?

Yes, it’s a great idea. Once it is warm, slip it under the duvet for a while before you go to bed, and your bed will be lovely and warm.

Be careful: it can be very hot. Take every precaution when you handle it.

Anything else I should know?

When you heat it, the wheat gives off a smell a bit like popcorn. We love it, but we would rather tell you.

How long does a wheat bag last?

It lasts a long time with use, but not forever.

Good news: you can open it by unpicking a seam and replace the wheat with fresh wheat. That way it will keep you company even longer.

Do you ship outside France?

Yes. Outside France, shipping is calculated from your address and paid with your order. Any customs duties and import taxes are paid by the recipient.
